  • District Introduces Students to World of Aviation

    Date: 03/20/17

The Ada City School District has partnered with members of Ada 's Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) to develop and implement an aviation program for students in Grades 6-12.  On March 8th, the District kicked off the program with an assembly for high school students which included remarks from Superintendent, Mike Anderson,  Ada City Manager, Cody Holcomb,  former Southwest Airlines pilot, Bill Bailey, and GAMI CEO, Tim Roehl.

Students were made aware of the importance of an airport to the local economy as well as to the plans for new development at the Ada Regional Airport.  The speakers introduced students to the opportunities available in aviation careers and made students aware of the innovative aviation products being developed in Ada.

In the Afternoon, over 200 students were given the opportunity to visit the Ada Regional Airport where they visited the new terminal, spoke with employees of GAMI, and were allowed to meet Air EVAC Personnel.  The program concluded with the opportunity for students to watch an airplane take off and land.

The District has applied for the opportunity to field test new aviation curriculum being developed by Purdue University.  In the coming years, plans will be developed which will provide new elective aviation courses for students.

"We are very excited about this new partnership and about the opportunities that the program will present for our students," said District Superintendent, Mike Anderson.  "It is exciting to be on the forefront of aviation education, and we appreciate the support that we have received from Ada's local aviation community."
